What it does

Checks whether a PDF is damaged and needs to be repaired when it is opened.

A PDF file can be damaged, for example, if you downloaded it from the Internet and the file transfer was incomplete.

If a PDF is damaged, you can try to redistill it or save it in Adobe Acrobat, using File > Save as . If this doesn't solve the problem, you will have to recreate the PDF from the source file, or download it again (if the problem was caused by a corrupt download).
