A PDF document may contain annotations, which can be created with Adobe Acrobat or with third-party plug-ins. You can look at a PDF document with annotations shown or hidden.
To show or hide all annotations in a document

Make sure you don’t have any annotation selected using the Adobe Acrobat Hand
tool
.

To show or hide annotations, in the PitStop View panel, click the
Hide/Show Annotations
button.
