Installing and activating Switch for SwitchClient

Compatibility between Switch and SwitchClient

As you are setting up the communication between Switch and SwitchClient, it's important that the versions used are compatible:
  • Switch 12 and SwitchClient 13: This combination is NOT supported. A newer SwitchClient should always talk to a Switch of at least the same version. Attempting to connect to an older Switch returns an error during connection.
  • Switch 13 and SwitchClient 12: This combination is supported. The communication protocol is adjusted in such a way that an older client still gets the information it expects. This is helpful when users have moved to a new Switch version and cannot ensure to upgrade all SwitchClient installations at the exact same time.

Licenses

A regular SwitchClient license includes a license for up to five SwitchClient connections. If this is not sufficient, you can purchase additional client licenses. The number of licenses (that is, simultaneous connections) can be raised by entering a new activation key in the Manage licenses dialog in Switch (so not in SwitchClient).
An active SwitchClient module allows you access to the following flow elements:
  • Submit point
  • Checkpoint
  • Checkpoint via mail
If SwitchClient is not licensed, the above flow elements will not be available and you will not be able to use SwitchClient to connect to Switch.

How to proceed

Follow the guidelines and instructions described in Installing, activating and starting Switch:
  1. Install Switch.
  2. Activate Switch, including the SwitchClient Module.
  3. Activate additional licenses if required.
