Connecting SwitchClient to the Switch Server

To establish a connection between SwitchClient and one or more copies of Switch Server on your local network

  1. Launch SwitchClient.
  2. Navigate to Edit > Connections .
  3. Click the button at the bottom. A new line appears in the list with status "Unknown Server".
  4. Complete the fields in the right part of the panel:

    Field

    Contents

    Host name / IP address

The host name or IP address of the computer on which Switch is installed (NOT the Switch Server name as set in the Switch preferences).

To connect to a copy of Switch on your local computer, enter "localhost" for this field.

    Port

The network port on which Switch expects client connections (usually the default value of 51008). The network port must be set in the Switch preferences (Internal communication).

    User name

User name as recognized by Switch (User configured in the Users pane)

    Password

Password as recognized by Switch (User configured in the Users pane)

  5. Click Test connection. When all information is entered correctly, the status underneath changes to Connected securely.
  6. To add all other Switch Servers on the network as well, click the Discover button. This will add all the Switch servers on the network. To avoid confusion, we recommend to only add the Switch Servers you are going to work with.
If SwitchClient fails to connect, check the Switch preferences and the user setup as described in Preparing for SwitchClient.
