Creating flows

Creating a flow in Switch is very easy: a wizard guides you through the flow creation process.

In the first step of the wizard, you must choose the preferred flow type (see table below).

Depending on the chosen flow type, the steps of the wizard are slightly different.

Flow type Description

Blank flow

Creates a blank flow. You can provide a flow name and a description, but the actual flow design will start with an empty canvas.

Choose this flow type if you want to start from scratch, and configure all flow elements yourself.

Receive and sort files

Creates a basic flow for receiving files through FTP and/or e-mail, sorting all incoming files in folders (based on file type or file name pattern) and sending notification e-mails if and when needed.

Choose this flow type if you need a similar flow. It will save you time, because you do not have to configure the flow elements manually.

For example, to receive files through e-mail, you must drag a Mail receive flow element to the canvas and set its properties. However, if you select this flow type in the wizard, the Mail receive flow element will be already on the canvas and the properties will be configured, based on the settings entered in the wizard.

Import sample flows

Imports one or more sample flows that were installed with Switch.

Choose this flow type, if you need a flow that is similar to one of the sample flows, so you can start from that flow and customize it to your needs.
