Data Collecting Wizard

About the Data Collecting Wizard

The Data collecting wizard is a tool that automatically collects the Switch data files, which are requested by the Enfocus Support team when they need more information on your Switch setup.

The tool collects the following data:

  • Flows
  • Preference files
  • Job tickets
  • logs .db3 file (ServerLogs.db3)
  • Information about the Switch files installed on the user's system (layout, name, size, modification date)
  • Relevant registry/plist records
  • Information from the Support tab in the About dialog box
  • Job datasets
The tool creates a zip package that can be sent to the Enfocus Support team.
Note: As the file size might be an issue (the .db3 files may be a few GB in size and the jobtickets may be a 100MB or more), you can as a user exclude certain data files from the collection.

Two versions

The Data Collecting Wizard is provided in two versions:
  • A stand-alone version (SwitchDataCollector.exe or SwitchDataCollector.app), available in the Switch installation folder.
    • Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Enfocus\Enfocus Switch <version number>
    • Mac OS: /Applications/Enfocus/Enfocus Switch <version number>
  • A built-in version, available from within Switch through the File menu ( File > Collect application data ).

The main difference between the two versions, is the way the flows are collected. Flows in a Switch installation are a combination of XML and Property sets in various folders. When a user chooses "Export" in the Designer UI, the XML and Property sets are combined in a file with extension .sflow. As this logic is difficult to extract outside Server, the stand-alone version does not offer the .sflow files (only the raw XML and Property sets). Besides, in the stand-alone version you have to collect either all or none of the .sflow files. You cannot make a selection.

Apart from that, only the stand-alone version allows you to collect data if Switch is not launched or cannot be launched anymore for any reason. If Switch is running, you are asked to quit.
