Viewing log messages in a web browser (through a URL)

From Switch 13 onwards, if you have the right permissions, you can view the log messages through a web browser without having to open a Switch Designer.

The permissions are set through the Users pane (Web browser access checkbox).

To view the log messages through a web browser

  1. Open the browser of your choice. You can use Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Safari.
  2. Enter the IP address or the name of the computer running Switch Server followed by ":" and the port number for the WebServer (as set in Switch preferences: Internal communication). For example:

  3. Enter your username and password and click Log in. The Switch Server must be running, otherwise you will not be able to log in. The most recent log messages are displayed, with a maximum of 1000 messages in total. If the auto refresh option is turned on (in the top right corner of the screen), the list is automatically renewed.

A thin arrow in the column header indicates the current sort order (descending or ascending ).

A filter icon indicates that a filter has been set on the column concerned.

  4. In the banner at the top of the page, click Accept cookie to allow Switch to save your preferences. If you accept cookies, your preferences are saved when closing your browser, so you don't have to set them next time you log in. If you click Decline cookie, you can continue to work, but you will have to select e.g. your language again every time you log in in a new browser.
You can now sort the messages or filter out the messages you're interested in as required. Refer to Filtering log messages (web browser) or Sorting log messages (web browser).
